Running Shoes!

Hi runners,

A reminder if anyone is considering buying new running shoes for the race: get them soon! It's best not to break-in new runners on race day.

Personally, I am due for a new pair. I think I will stick with the same brand, MiZuno. As your running progresses, you may come to experience some brand loyalty with regard to your running shoes. You might find that a certain brand fits your feet best.

My only consideration is whether to buy a pair more suited for winter running - something more rugged, with more grip. However, a running friend of mine wears grips (picture an elasticy thing with little screws sticking out that you wrap under your running shoe). I'm thinking of doing the same this winter season, and foregoing the winterized running shoe altogether. I repeatedly turned-over on my left ankle last winter and attribute it to the bulky nature of the winter shoe (and the icy sidewalks of course!). But more on winter running later... ;)

I have to say that Beverly, at the running room, advises against the grips. She said "if it's that icy outside, take a day off."

Not sure about winter running...not if this winter is like last one!

If I take a day off because it's icy outside, I would never run in the winter!! Ice is part of winter running, and the more you get used to running in winter conditions, the easier it gets.
The grips are debatable, I know. But as this will be my second winter season running, I think I'm going to give them a try!
