If there are some among us who are new to running, I want to let you know about the Learn to Run clinic. It's made especially for people who are... well, learning to run. It might be a good experience to help you train and get you started. If you are interested there is a new clinic starting on Monday Sept. 22 at 6:30pm at the Westmount Running Room (among other locations).
We've probably all noticed it's getting cooler outside! Personally, I find this the perfect time to run outdoors. When we run, our body temperature increases by approximately 5-degrees. So when we're running on a hot day, it can feel even hotter. So these cooler temperatures are really ideal for a good outdoor workout. Stepping out in your shorts and a t-shirt may feel chilly at first, but once your blood gets pumping and you start sweating, you'll feel grateful for the cooler temperatures. So try to remember that when your thinking about heading out for a run.
A few of you have asked about registering for the 10k Cap St-Jaques race. You have to register online, via the Running Room web site. The link is here: http://www.events.runningroom.com/site/?raceId=3524 Once you've registered, send a note out to the rest of us to let us know!
There is a 5k CIBC Run for the Cure race on October 5th. I'm thinking of running it, just for the "race experience" and to set another mini goal. Any interest??
Lastly, there are open runs at the Running Room on Wednesdays - meaning you don't have to be part of a clinic to run with the group. I know Jenn participates, and I usually do as well. Jenn is part of a clinic, I am not. The next run is Wednesday Sept 17 (tomorrow) at 6pm. There are a variety of different distances you can run, and there are always happy people to run with! It's truly a great way to train. So if anyone is interested, just show up at the Running Room Westmount Store (4873 Sherbrooke Ouest) for 6pm.
Happy running,
Lisa

The run for the cure is a really, really crowded run....you can't really run that fast, and most people are walking. That being said, I'd do it anyway. It's lots of fun, and we can go for brunch after!
True, it is a popular race. The objective though is to gain race experience, familiarize yourself with a race atmosphere and the process, not necessarily to run your personal best (although you never know!).
Adrienne, a Running Room instructor (and running partner of mine) is captaining a team, Team Running Room Montreal. We have until the end of this week to register.
NB. Even at the most busiest of races, you can usually find your pace and run smoothly after about the first km.
PS. Are we the only two on here?!
Thanks for the invite to the blog! I just started running again after 3 months off due to injuries, travels, and laziness. I'm back in the game and loving it!
